Eligibility Criteria

Premier’s One World Scholarships will be awarded annually on a competitive basis to students who:

  • Are Canadian citizens or permanent residents (landed immigrants);
  • Are British Columbia residents, defined as having had their primary residency at an address in the province for at least the past 12 months;
  • Are able to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in their post-secondary studies to date, such as having at least a B+ or equivalent academic standing;
  • Are not carrying out their study/work activity in a country from which they have immigrated within the past ten years;
  • Are enrolled in an academic program at a public post-secondary institution in BC leading to a credential that requires at least two years of full time study for completion;
  • Have been accepted into an eligible study or work abroad program outside Canada and the United States of America that is either a formal part of the student’s credential program at his/her home institution OR carry academic credit recognized by the student’s home institution;
  • Are able to demonstrate links between their study/work abroad experience and their education goals;
  • Have demonstrated some involvement in their institution and/or community; and
  • Have not been awarded an international scholarship from the Society for the current year. Past One World and Pacific Horizons Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply.

Selected scholarship recipients will be expected to accept their scholarship and begin their study term within twelve months after the date of notification regarding the scholarship.

The Scholarship Society adjudication committee will make its selection on the basis of:

  • Academic excellence as well as non-academic accomplishments,
  • Demonstrated interest and involvement in institutional and/or community affairs,
  • Personal qualities and character that relate to how students will be successful in their studies abroad,
  • The connection between the applicant’s proposed study/work abroad experience and their educational/career goals,
  • The applicant’s likelihood of success in their studies abroad,
  • The content of the applicant’s letters of reference.

Preference will be given to applicants who are obtaining their first credential.
