Eligibility Criteria
BC Aboriginal Student Awards will be awarded on a competitive basis to students who:
- Are Aboriginal as defined by the provincial government’s Aboriginal Administrative Data Standard, namely, as "the Indian, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada".
- Are British Columbia residents, defined as having your primary residence at an address in the province for at least the past 12 months.
- Are accepted into an eligible program of study at one of BC’s public post-secondary institutions or Aboriginally controlled institutions, as determined by the Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society.
- Are studying in no later than their second year of any eligible program (if that program is longer than two years) by the application deadline.
- Are enrolled in full time study in an approved program of study.
An eligible program is a minimum of 9 weeks of study and includes:
- Trades training programs;
- Apprenticeship programs;
- Certificate programs;
- Diploma programs;
- Undergraduate degree programs; and
- Graduate degree programs
offered at one of BC's 25 public post secondary institutions or at a BC Aboriginal Institution recognized by the Society.
To have a program at another BC Aboriginal Institution considered for this award, please contact the Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society by e-mail at info@bcscholarship.ca or by phone at (250) 381-5532 no later than May 1, 2010. The program will then be considered by the Society for eligibility.
Adult Basic Education and non-credit continuing education courses are not eligible programs for this award.
